Finding current research

There are a variety of places to look for information on current research projects. Some of the most important ones are listed below

  • Be Part of Research
    Formerly The UK Clinical Trials Gateway provides information about clinical research trials running in the UK. Intended for the public   (This database includes all projects supported by the CRN).
  • Clinical Trials.gov
    ClinicalTrials.gov is a registry of federally and privately supported clinical trials conducted in the United States and around the world.
  • European Union Clinical Trials Register   allows you to search for protocol and results information on:
    • interventional clinical trials that were approved in the European Union (EU)/European Economic Area (EEA) under the Clinical Trials Directive 2001/20/EC
    • clinical trials conducted outside the EU/EEA that are linked to European paediatric-medicine development
  • ISRCTN Registry
    The ISRCTN registry is a primary clinical trial registry recognised by WHO and ICMJE that accepts all clinical research studies (whether proposed, ongoing or completed).
  • MRC /Clinical Trials Unit
    The website provides information on ongoing trials and research areas.
  • NIHR Funding and Awards
    Awards funded by the NIHR with details of projects from all the NIHR funding streams.  It includes completed and ongoing studies.
  • NIHR Open Data Funded Portfolio
    Awards funded by the NIHR since 2011. It will be updated quarterly.
  • NIHR Portfolio
    A database of projects funded by the NIHR EME, HTA, HS&DR, PH, and SR programmes, is available through the NIHR Journals Library: (Use the research projects tab).
  • PROSPERO
    PROSPERO international database of prospectively registered systematic reviews in health and social care. PROSPERO aims to provide a comprehensive listing of systematic reviews registered at inception to help avoid unplanned duplication and enable comparison of reported review findings with what was planned in the protocol.
  • Pubmed central grant look-up
    Searches for grants information provided by Europe PMC funders (these include NIHR and well-known charities.
  • UKRI
    Searches for research funded by the Research Councils.
  • WHO International Clinical Trials Registry Platform (ICTRP)
    Provides access to a central database containing the trial registration data sets provided by national registries. It also provides links to the full original records.
